Workshop Objectives
Participants will gain a thorough understanding of the process of patternmaking from start to finish through the creation of patterns and the construction of a pair of cargo pants, bomber jacket, hoodie with sweat pants, and denim jacket. Participants will gain in depth knowledge on the different fabrics used for sportswear such as French Terry and fleece. Please note, participants in this course should already have some basic knowledge of patternmaking and drafting, and may be asked some questions to assess if this course is the right for them.
Instructor Short Biography
With more than 20 years of experience as a designer and teacher, Sarkis Assadourian is a patternmaking and drafting instructor at Creative Space Beirut. Sarkis has mentored an array of renowned designers, including Krikor Jabotian, Hussein Bazaza, Rami Kadi, Alaa Najd, Elie Baroud and Azzi and Osta, all of whom worked under his guidance before graduating from ESMOD.
An ESMOD fashion design and pattern drafter graduate himself, Sarkis has earned prestigious awards throughout his career – two of which were first prize for Elie Saab’s Patternmaking and Drafting competition. In addition to this, he was also the head designer of the Mission Fashion television show by Elie Saab on LBC and Fashion Star – a television program by Reem Acra broadcasted on Dubai One. Sarkis Assadourian has designed more than 50 bespoke evening and bridal gowns as well as theatrical costumes. Sarkis is also a designer and the creative patternmaker and drafter of the brand Salad, a new brand by Fabric Aid, based on upcycling.
Workshop Outline
Session 1 & 2: The construction of a pair of cargo pants including loops, zip fly, Italian pockets, and patch pockets.
Session 3 & 4: The construction of a bomber jacket including welt pocket, cuffs facing, metalic zipper, and ribbing.
Session 5, 6 & 7: The construction of a hoodie with kangaroo pockets and sweatpants.
Session 8, 9 & 10: The construction of a denim jacket including a welt seam, denim pocket with a flap, back seamed sleeve, and a separate belt.
